Some common rhetorical features that authors use in complex, high-school level text include hyperbole, metaphor, simile, repetition, illusion, irony, symbolism, personification, alliteration, and consonance.
Ethical appeal (ethos) – refers to the credibility or character of the author or speaker.
Emotional appeal (pathos) – refers to the approach the author or speaker uses to appeal to the emotions of the audience.
Logical appeal (logos) – refers to the organization and reasoning that the author uses.
